[Indonesia Update] Online filing for renewal of trademark is now possible!

On 28 September 2015, the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) officially launched the online application for the renewal of registered trademarks. This is surely a step forward for DGIP in making IP rights protection and maintenance more accessible to the public. The online application shortens the renewal process from the current period of at least 1 year to a maximum of 14 working days.

Not only does this online application reduce the time taken to submit and process the trademark renewal, but it also simplifies the entire process. It is done in an efficient step-by-step manner that begins with filling in the online form and uploading the relevant supporting documents. This is then followed by the receipt of the billing code for payment, which must be settled within 3 days.

Being an online application in its nascent stages, it would not be surprising if there are still a few kinks to be ironed out, However, this move by the Indonesian Government, and indeed the DGIP, is a promising sign of things to come.

The online application can be accessed at http://efiling.dgip.go.id.
