For those in Penang and its surrounding areas, do keep the 16th of November 2009 free as KASS International’s Penang Office and Universiti Sains Malaysia are organizing a half-day seminar on “University – Private Sector Collaborations: A UK and Malaysia Perspective”.
Speakers
Mr. Adrian Chettle, a distinguished speaker from Withers & Rogers of the UK, was especially invited to speak at this event. He will deliver the papers and lead the discussion with Mr. Kandiah of KASS International Sdn Bhd, a highly noted figure within the IP field who is regularly invited to speak in Malaysia and abroad, often upon the request of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Background
Universities have the manpower and skill to create new technology. In recent times the government of Malaysia has provided funds under various funding schemes to finance the research.
Industries are constantly hungry for new technology as they strive to move up the value chain and be part of the knowledge-based economy.
Despite the apparent perfect match, the results are not encouraging. Research results in the Universities are still sitting on shelves and the Industries do not seem to bother to tap into the vast potential of the Universities. Why the mismatch? Why the lack of collaboration?
This seminar will throw light on UK’s experience in the field, and what possible action Malaysian Universities and Industries can undertake to derive maximum benefits from our researchers.
